Photographer and journalist Katie Hayes Luke from Austin, TX is capturing photos from around the nation of LGBTQ+ persons.c
Hi! My name is Katie Hayes Luke and I am a photographer and journalist from Austin, Texas. I am working on a project called Postcards from Americans and I wanted to reach out to you to see if you might be interested in participating.
For the project, I make portraits of Americans from across the political spectrum and ask them to write a letter to President Trump. I then mail the image and letter to the White House. I am wanting to highlight voices from veterans, those currently servicing and family members to publish on Veteran’s Day.
My goal is to foster political action at the local level and to create political conversations from the ground up. I think you and your organization would be great to profile. Let me know if you think this is something either you and/or your members would want to participate. I am happy to talk on the phone to answer any questions.
Katie Hayes Luke (1981) was born in Austin, Texas where she currently freelances as a photojournalist and multimedia producer. While studying for undergraduate degrees in Math and Psychology at the University of Texas, Katie picked up a camera – with intention- for the first time. A short-lived obsession with double exposures gave way to an intense love for long-form story telling. Through an emphasis of documentary video education and an internship with National Public Radio, Katie expanded her work to include multimedia projects.
In 2004, she attended the SALT Institute for Documentary Studies and in 2009 received a MA in photojournalism from The University of Texas.
